The seventh axis environment can be harsh, with potential exposure to mechanical impacts, abrasion, and environmental factors such as dust, moisture, and chemicals. High-flex power cables are built with robust mechanical protection to withstand these challenges. The outer sheathing is designed to be highly abrasion-resistant, protecting the inner conductors and insulation from damage caused by friction and contact with surrounding objects. Some cables may also feature additional protective layers, such as metal armor or corrugated tubes, in areas where extreme mechanical stress is expected.
In addition to mechanical durability, high-flex power cables must deliver reliable electrical performance. They are designed to maintain consistent electrical conductivity, even under repeated bending and flexing. The insulation materials used are carefully selected to provide high dielectric strength, ensuring that the cables can safely carry the required electrical current without the risk of electrical breakdown or short circuits. Moreover, these cables are often shielded to minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), which can disrupt the operation of sensitive robotic control systems.
